Andy Carroll, I'm Off
The biggest news of transfer deadline day was the new British record 35m signing of Newcastle United and England striker Andy Carroll by Liverpool. Newcastle had turned down two offers of 30m and 32.5m for the player earlier in the day from Liverpool, before Andy himself handed in a transfer request to the Newcastle board, sorry am I missing something here I thought Andy Carroll was proud to wear the famous number 9 shirt at Newcastle and has stated that he wanted to be the next Alan Shearer.
The question I have is why leave for Liverpool then? Andy is a hero in Newcastle. He played an integral part in us winning the Championship, and helping turn Newcastle back into the force that they once were. He has scored 11 goals this season for Newcastle and has been on the transfer radar for many clubs. Newcastle have however stood firm and stated that Andy Carroll is not for sale, yeah right Ashley! Thanks again, after just getting the Toon fans back on side, myself included you go and do this. Sell our biggest asset. I wouldn’t mind so much if I thought you where going to give Alan Pardew the 35m to invest back into new players, let’s wait and see shall we.
Also off In January
Wayne Routledge has left for QPR, great signing for Newcastle last season in the championship but not really a Premiership player.
Tamas Kadar has moved to Huddersfield town on a month long loan deal.
Ben Tozer has been on a loan spell at Northampton since the beginning of the season the loan has been extended to the end of this season.
Hello The Toon
Hatem Ben-Arfa has made his loan switch to Newcastle a permanent deal, the former Marsille midfielder has impressed since his arrival at Newcastle and manager Alan Pardew made sure this was the first of any deal to be secured.
Steven Ireland has come to Newcastle on loan for the rest of the season. The 24 year old former Aston Villa and Manchester City player will be looking to impress. Ireland has had injury troubles recently and to honest I can only remember him having one good season at Man City. Let’s see how he does with places in Newcastle’s midfield hard to come by. Should be a good signing from Pardew and gives us a bit of depth in the midfield if nothing else.
Tiote Signs New Deal
Great news today for Newcastle United football fans, manager Alan Pardew has secured the signing of Ivory Coast international Cheick Tiote on a six and a half year deal keeping him at the club until the 2016/2017 season.
Tiote was signed in the summer from FC Twente by for boss Chris Hughton and has proved to be one of footballs best kept secrets. Tiote's displays for Newcastle this season have been immense and he has secured his place in the center of Newcastle's midfield.
Last ditch effort
One thing that did impress me with Newcastle’s spending, or lack of it on the last day was a last minute offer of 12m for Charles N’Zogbia, which unfortunately was turned down. This does show however that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley may be willing to loosen the purse strings come summer.

Excellent write up of a busy day in the transfer market. As a Liverpool fan I'm quite excited about the prospect of seeing Carroll play although I'm bit gutted about the whole Torres thing. Anyhow, very nicely written and voted up!
Hi Martyv25, Great Hub about this and probably if Carroll had been transferred a few days or even a few weeks earlier and Newcastle had the time to bring in 1 or 2 quality forwards it might have looked a lot better for Newcastle fans. Cheers. Michael.
great hub! I feel sorry for Newcastle fans, they must feel let down big time. Happy for Carroll though, it could be just what he needed to become a truly great player. Cannot believe he is only 20 years old.
Great hub. As a spurs fan I am gutted that Carroll ended up being sold to Liverpool. I feel so sorry for all Newcastle fans as their fantastic club is bring ruined by asset strippers. The sooner ashley et al go the better for everyone.
Hi Marty, Nice to meet you. Great start for the hubchallenge.
absolutely helpfull
As a Newcastle fan, I must say that I was devastated to see Andy Carroll departure to Liverpool. It was like selling out the dreams and future of the club to another club just to gain some hefty amount of money.
Especially when we unable to find any replacement due to the transfer deadline.
Well, I just wish that we can make good use of that money on to build a better team.
I hope..
with Ashley? Ummm...

Thanks for the summary. Voted up.
The whole Carroll transfer is the strangest one this season. For £35m, it looks like Newcastle have got a great deal. But it looked that way when they received £12m for Milner yet Villa made a huge profit when they sold him on to City. Carroll is pretty inexperienced by premiership standards and it will be interesting to see how he matures at Liverpool. If he fails to fill the void left by Torres then I can see Newcastle buying him back for about £15m in 18 months time. Ashley is the kind of guy who would love a situation like that.
The actual motivation behind Carroll wanting to leave and/or Newcastle wanting to sell, is pretty murky and unclear, which is typical of the Ashley regime. Some say that Carroll's agent ordered him to hand in the request as a bluff when the Newcastle board refused to discuss a new contract. Obviously the bluff backfired and Carroll found himself on his way to Anfield.
Whether Carroll wanted to leave or not is debatable. The one thing that is absolutely caked in certainty is that Ashley wanted to sell. He knew Liverpool and Spurs were both interested, and he also knew that deadline day would climax with a flurry of overpriced panic buys. Those last 12 hours before midnight are a seller's market. If Spurs hadn't made their initial offering, and Liverpool had faxed a £20m bid through to St James' Park at 11:45pm, Ashley and Llambias would have strapped Carroll to a jet pack to get him down to Liverpool in time to sign the contract. But of course, Spurs presented an early bid, then the Torres saga dragged on, and finally Liverpool came in with the monster bid.
If all £35m is reinvested (wisely) in the team then Newcastle won't be far from challenging for Europe in a couple of years. But I very much doubt Pardew will get more than £15m in the summer window. One word on Pardew: he is Ashley and Llambias's minion and I won't ever believe a word he says.
If Stephen Ireland can rediscover his best form from Man City then he will be a fantastic addition to the squad. I'm also excited about the return of Ben Arfa.
