How to know what your monthly mobile web usage is
Surfing the Internet on your mobile phone is becoming more and more common with the technology in mobile phones allowing us to stay connected to our social networking sites and E-Mail 24 hours a day at the palm of our hands, but a lot of people don’t really know how much Internet surfing they can do with their monthly allowance they have from their mobile service provider.
The amounts are usually 250Mb, 500Mb, 750Mb and 1GB. A lot of service providers will state that you have an unlimited Internet usage, and yes to some effect you do but they always have small print. You will see next to the unlimited usage advert that there is a star like this (*). This means in the small print the Internet surfing is subject to fair usage policy, and they normally ask that you do not exceed 1GB a month and don’t do anything that they would constitute as non mobile web browsing, downloading music or movies from torrent sites for example.
Now you are probably wondering, well how much mobile web usage do I take up every month, maybe you are thinking about taking out a phone with this type of plan and wondering what deal you should take. Well hopefully this will help you, as I have been looking into it myself recently.
Ok then let’s start at the top a 1GB monthly deal is around 1024Mb but is best rounded down to 1000Mb to keep yourself right. Your mobile web surfing is tracked in kbs, very small data and Mbs slightly larger but nothing major. You may see that already in a month you have used 1024b, and think I have gone right to my limit, you haven’t 1024b is only equivalent to 1kbs and is hardly any usage at all, in fact you will probably use that just loading up an Internet page, so don’t worry.
Your usage will depend on the type of Internet connection, WAP or 3GS for example. The type of mobile you are using will also have an impact, the three most prominent at the moment are Smartphones, Blackberry and iPhone's, I cant get the iPhone data but check the table below for your phone.

So let’s say you are a moderate mobile internet user like me, I check my Twitter, Facebook, E-Mail, do Google searches (not many) and watch the odd YouTube video, I have a 500Mb monthly deal and I never exceed it or get anywhere near exceeding it. I could not find anything in relation to iPhone stats but unless you are sitting on the internet all day, you probably don’t have to worry that much. So there are some figures for you and a bit of a tale of bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes.
