This Seasons Contenders
Sebastian Vettel (Germany)
Vettel will be hoping to get his championship off to a good start in the Bahrain desert this year with him finishing 4th last season and 38 seconds behind 2 time world champion Fernando Alonso. Vettel has a great car underneath him and proved last season that he can cut it with the best capturing 10 pole positions and 5 wins in the 2010 season leading him to become the youngest Formula One world Champion in history.
Mark Webber (Australia)
The Aussie won the Monaco, British, Spanish and Hungarian Grand Prix’s last season and led the world championship going into the summer break. His return following that was not to gracious seeing him and his team make poor pit timing decisions he became involved in a four way battle for the title and ended up third overall. Having not won a championship yet will defiantly be in contention with the car he has under him and will be looking for a good statement making start in Bahrain.
Lewis Hamilton (England)
The 2008 champion finished 4th in the standings in the 2010 season and as always will be a hot favourite for the 2011 season. Hamilton proved his class and his nerve in his first season going head to head with team mate Fernando Alonso refusing to back down to Mclarens star man. Hamilton will no doubt win some races this season but lets hope the new Mclaren and it’s improvements are up to the red bull challenge.
Jenson Button (England)
Hamilton’s team mate completes Mclarens all British line up, the 2009 champion will be in contention again this season but was out shone by Hamliton in the 2010 season. Button has experience on his side though and has proved he has staying power in the world of Formula One. A classy driver no doubt but does he have the pace and nerve of the younger more confident drivers.
Fernando Alonso (Spain)
The one man you can never write off. The two time world champion finished second in the 2010 season only 4 points behind champion Sebastian Vettell. Alonso was in his first season with Ferrari in 2010 and will most certainly be looking to bring them glory in the 2011 season. Alonso won the Bahrain race in 2010 and will once again be looking for a good start in 2011.
Who To Watch Out For
Michael Schumacher (Germany)
I suppose you can never really write this guy off the 7 time World Champion and statistically the best Formula 1 driver ever. Schumacher did not really set the world alight when he returned from retirement, but he has not come back for nothing. He finished 9th in the World Driver Championship standings in 2010 and will be 42 years old at the start of the 2011 season, does he have what it takes to drive with the like of Vettel and Hamilton?
Kamui Kobayashi (Japan)
Kobayashi will be hoping for a better start this season as he retired from 6 of the first 12 races in 2010. He has raw pace and like Hamilton and Vettel is not afraid to pass people with audatious moves. He scored 32 points last season and finished 6th at Silverstone.
The 2011 season will no doubt be filled as usual with thrills, spills, tantrums and tears but I cant wait for that first race on 13th March in Bahrain
